FFI Grand Medical Camp 2027: Health Beyond the Pitch
About the Event
The Former Footballers Initiative (FFI) is preparing to hold another two-day medical camp on Thursday, 14 and Friday, 15 January 2027.
The initiative will bring together former footballers, healthcare professionals, corporate organisations and community partners in support of better health and dignified life after football.
Planning is still underway. The venue, operating hours, medical services, participating institutions and attendance arrangements will be announced after confirmation.
Building on proven community impact
The 2027 camp will build on FFI’s successful medical outreach held at Mengo Senior School on 16–17 January 2025.
During that camp, medical professionals attended to 1,002 people, including former footballers, their families and members of the wider community. Participants received general consultations, cancer screening, eye care and other health services.
Working with Nakasero Blood Bank and community partners, the camp also collected 103 units of blood to support accident victims, people living with sickle cell disease and other patients requiring blood transfusions.

Why the medical camp matters
Footballers inspire communities throughout their playing careers, but many face health and welfare challenges after leaving competitive sport. Regular medical screening can help identify potentially serious conditions before they become difficult or expensive to manage.
Through the medical camp, FFI seeks to use the influence and collective experience of former footballers to encourage:
Preventive healthcare and regular medical screening
Early identification of chronic and life-threatening conditions
Greater attention to the health of retired sportspeople
Community participation in health and blood-donation programmes
Stronger cooperation between sport, healthcare and corporate institutions
The final list of services will depend on the medical institutions and partners supporting the 2027 programme.
