Our background

They gave the country its heroes. We make sure the game gives something back.

Football has been Uganda’s great game since the 1940s, producing famous national heroes. Yet many of them struggled after retirement, because the sport here was built more on entertainment than on income.

The Former Footballers Initiative was established in 2015 to close that gap. We unite former players, fans, administrators and well-wishers across every football region, from Buganda to West Nile, without discrimination.

Football takes root
Football becomes Uganda’s great game and produces national heroes. But it pays in fame more than income, and many players retire with little to fall back on.

The initiative begins
Former players come together to close that gap: to look after each other, and to build a life after the final whistle.

FFI is legally registered on 12 April 2022 (No. 80020003497656), with its home at BMK House, Kampala.
2025
First fixture on the calendar
Grand Medical Camp: FFI to Serve the Community at Mengo Senior School: the first FFI event on the public record.
