About the Event
The East African Legends Festival 2026 brings together former footballers from across East Africa for the second edition of the regional legends tournament, taking place from 26–28 October 2026 at Nairobi City Stadium, Kenya.
Organised by AgeWatch Africa, the festival celebrates the International Day of Older Persons under the theme “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives.”
Kenya hosts the tournament for the second consecutive year, welcoming participants from Uganda, Tanzania and Zanzibar.
The competition is exclusively for former footballers aged 60 years and above, celebrating their contribution to the beautiful game while promoting healthy ageing, friendship and regional solidarity.
FFI's Participation
The Former Footballers Initiative (FFI) will represent Uganda at this regional gathering, with its delegation departing for Nairobi on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
FFI's participation reflects its commitment to preserving Uganda's football heritage, strengthening relationships among East African football veterans and promoting a dignified Life After Football.
The tournament provides an opportunity for Uganda's former football stars to reconnect with their regional counterparts, share experiences and demonstrate that their passion for football continues beyond their active playing careers.
Support for the FFI Delegation
FFI's participation has received support from Uganda's National Council of Sports (NCS), which has provided UGX 15 million towards the trip, facilitated through the Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, according to FFI leadership.
ICON Medical Centre, an FFI healthcare partner, has also indicated additional support for the delegation.
FFI appreciates this support towards recognising and empowering Uganda's football veterans.
Celebrating Football, Friendship and Longevity
Beyond competition, the East African Legends Festival promotes physical well-being, social inclusion and the continued recognition of former footballers as valuable contributors to society.
For FFI, the event represents an opportunity to advance its mission of Solidarity, Welfare and Life After Football, while honouring the generations who built Uganda's football legacy.
Follow FFI for updates, photographs and highlights from the tournament.
