Football Fraternity Bids Farewell to Capt. Polly Ouma at Mengo Chapel
A sombre and star-studded congregation of legends, coaches, and administrators gathered to honor the life of "The Field General" before his final journey to Busia.

KAMPALA – History, nostalgia, and grief filled the air at Mengo Senior School Chapel yesterday, January 2nd, as the football fraternity gathered for the main requiem service of the late Captain Polly Ouma.
In a moving tribute to a man who defined an era of Ugandan football, the pews were filled not just with mourners, but with the living history of the beautiful game. Former Footballers sat shoulder-to-shoulder with modern-day administrators, coaches from rival clubs, and the current leadership of the Former Footballers Initiative (FFI).
A United Fraternity
The service was a powerful display of "Munno Mukabbi" - the spirit of brotherhood that Polly Ouma championed during his time as an FFI Executive.
From his former footballer colleagues to the players he mentored as a coach at SC Villa, the turnout was a testament to the lives he touched.
"It is rare to see this many former footballers in one room," remarked an FFI representative. "Today, club colors did not matter. Whether you are Express, KCCA, or Villa, we are all here as children of the General."
The Final Journey
Following the emotional service and a public viewing at Kadiba Grounds, the cortège departed this morning for Busia Bumungi, the ancestral home of the late captain.
The official burial ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 PM today, Saturday, January 3, 2026.
The FFI Executive continues to call upon the public to support the bereaved family during this difficult time through the official welfare fund.
Rest in Peace, Captain.
Your legacy is etched in our hearts and our history books
