KAMPALA – In a decisive move to address the long-standing challenge of life after professional sports, the Executive Committee of the Former Footballers Initiative (FFI) has officially appointed Mr. Kimera Ronald as the Head of the Education Pillar. The appointment was confirmed during a strategic meeting held on December 16, 2025, where the committee gathered to review the federation's roadmap for 2026.

"This involves laying a firm foundation for the future. Football is a career, football is a business, and football is life." – Kimera Ronald, Head of Education Pillar.

Mr. Kimera, a former footballer who successfully transitioned into academic leadership, brings a unique blend of experience to the role. Currently serving as the Director of Schools for St. Barnabas College, Migadde, and Shiloh School in Kyebando, he presented a comprehensive framework titled "The Education Department / Guidance & Counseling" to the executive.

A Blueprint for Transformation

In his presentation, Mr. Kimera outlined a robust strategy aimed at sensitizing former, active, and upcoming footballers on overcoming life's challenges before and after retirement. "This involves laying a firm foundation for the future," Kimera stated, emphasizing that football must be viewed not just as a game, but as a career and a unifying factor.

His proposed work plan includes:

  • Designing a dedicated leadership structure for the Education Department.

  • Organizing national conferences and seminars across the Central, Eastern, Western, and Northern regions.

  • Partnering with educational fraternities such as the University Football League Committee and the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) to reach young talent early.

Bridging the Gap

The new department aims to reach three critical categories: former footballers, licensed active players (from the Super League to Division levels), and young academy prospects. Mr. Kimera stressed the importance of leveraging modern platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and WhatsApp to disseminate "information packages" containing researched guidance and tips from successful players.

The initiative also plans to collaborate with key stakeholders including the Ministry of Education, Technology & Sports, the National Council of Sports, and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to drive these programs forward.

Executive Endorsement

The FFI Executive Committee unanimously endorsed Mr. Kimera’s appointment and his vision for the pillar. "Football is life, but it is also a business," the committee noted, echoing the presentation's core message. "If we put our heads together, we can make the whole world know that footballers are a key element of the game, worthy of a secure future."

Mr. Kimera will immediately begin establishing his committee and designing the annual budget to source funding and sponsors for the upcoming regional seminars.
