MOROCCO – The atmosphere is charged, the stakes are high, and bragging rights are on the line. Tomorrow, Saturday, 27th December 2025, the Uganda Cranes face their neighbors and historic rivals, the Tanzania Taifa Stars, in a highly anticipated East African Derby at the TotalEnergies AFCON 2025.

For the Former Footballers Initiative (FFI), this match resonates deeply. It echoes the intense rivalries of the 1960s and 70s, where legends like Polly Ouma and Phillip Omondi battled for supremacy against regional foes.

More Than Just 3 Points
While both teams are fighting for progression to the knockout stages, a derby carries a different weight. "Playing against Tanzania isn't just about tactics; it's about heart," remarked FFI General Secretary John Kennedy Lubogo Mutatwala. "We know the current squad understands the history. They are not just playing for points; they are playing for the pride of the Pearl of Africa."

Team News & Expectations
Under the guidance of Coach Paul Put, the Cranes have looked sharp in training. The blend of experienced heads like Khalid Aucho and the explosive energy of young talents like Travis Mutyaba offers a balanced threat.

Tanzania, however, has proven to be a stubborn opponent in recent years. The FFI urges the team to maintain discipline and utilize their speed on the counter, traditionally a Ugandan strength.

A Message from the Legends
The FFI Executive, having recently sent a formal message of solidarity to the camp in Morocco, reiterates its support. "To the boys: Forget the noise. Focus on the 90 minutes. The entire fraternity of former footballers, is behind you. Bring the victory home."

Kick-off is scheduled for tomorrow. We urge all Ugandans to rally behind the team.
