KAMPALA – In a significant move towards financial independence and professional corporate governance, the Executive Committee of the Former Footballers Initiative (FFI) has appointed Mr. Ssempijja Isaac as the Head of the Business Pillar. The appointment was formalized during an executive committee meeting held on December 2, 2025.

Mr. Ssempijja brings a formidable portfolio to the initiative, boasting over 20 years of experience in sales, marketing, business development, and customer service management. His dual expertise as a Lecturer at Uganda Martyrs University and a Senior Marketing Executive at Radio Simba positions him uniquely to bridge the gap between sports administration and the corporate world.

A New Commercial Era

Upon accepting the role, Mr. Ssempijja laid out an ambitious roadmap to secure the initiative's financial future. "The goal is to shift from reliance on handouts to creating a self-sustaining entity," he noted during the session.

His mandate is extensive and critical to the FFI's long-term survival. Key responsibilities outlined during his appointment include:

  • Driving Revenue: Securing high-value sponsorships, managing media rights, and developing merchandising and ticketing strategies.

  • Brand Strategy: Overseeing marketing campaigns and fan engagement initiatives to increase the value of the FFI brand.

  • Strategic Partnerships: Engaging key stakeholders including football clubs, government bodies, and corporate sponsors to build mutually beneficial relationships.

  • Financial Sustainability: Preparing and overseeing the business pillar budget to ensure every shilling is accounted for and invested wisely.

Expertise Meets Passion

The FFI Executive expressed full confidence in Ssempijja’s ability to deliver. With a background that includes a Higher Diploma in Marketing, a Bachelor of Business Administration, and currently finalizing a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Ssempijja possesses the academic rigor required to structure the initiative's business arm professionally.

He is tasked with identifying new business opportunities and innovations, ensuring that the legacy of Uganda’s former footballers is preserved not just through memories, but through tangible economic empowerment.

This appointment marks the beginning of the FFI's aggressive strategy to monetize its activities for the benefit of its members’ welfare.
