FFI–ICON Healthcare Programme

About the program
The FFI–ICON Healthcare Programme supports access to selected free and subsidised healthcare for eligible former Ugandan footballers and their families. Delivered through the partnership between the Former Footballers Initiative (FFI) and ICON Medical Services Limited, it brings practical healthcare support into life after football.
Care beyond the playing years
Old sports injuries and ongoing health conditions can affect a former player’s comfort, mobility and everyday responsibilities. This programme provides a framework for professional assessment and care under the arrangements agreed by FFI and ICON.
Areas covered by the partnership include:
Assessment and management of previous sports injuries, joint and muscle conditions, osteoarthritis, chronic pain and mobility difficulties.
Screening, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
General medical services at subsidised rates.
Selected free consultations, screenings and health education activities, as determined and communicated by ICON.
Support for eligible family members
The partnership also recognises the importance of family wellbeing. It provides for free antenatal care for eligible wives, partners and other agreed female beneficiaries, within the scope agreed by both organisations. Other women’s health services may be available at subsidised rates.
How to access support
Contact FFI leadership to express interest and confirm eligibility. FFI and ICON will explain the available services, the arrangements for attending and any expected charges.
Submitting an application expresses interest in the programme. It does not automatically confirm eligibility, an appointment or entitlement to free treatment.
Understanding costs
The programme combines selected free services with subsidised care. It does not cover every treatment free of charge.
Confirm the benefits available before attending. Medicines, investigations, procedures or referrals outside the agreed benefits may attract charges, which should be explained before proceeding.
Prevention and continuing support
FFI and ICON may organise agreed health education, screening and wellness activities. FFI will communicate confirmed opportunities and help eligible members understand how to participate.
By supporting health and family wellbeing, the programme advances FFI’s commitment to dignity and Life After Football. It also supports former players’ continuing involvement in Ugandan football as mentors, coaches, administrators and custodians of the game’s history.
For eligibility and access enquiries, contact FFI through the website’s Contact page.
