SC Villa Win Their First CECAFA Club Title

SC Villa won their first CECAFA Club Championship on 7 February 1987, defeating Sudan’s Al-Merrikh 1–0 in the final at Nakivubo Stadium. Sula Kato scored the decisive goal in the 27th minute, and captain Paul Hasule lifted the trophy in front of the home crowd. Villa topped their group after beating Tanzania’s Tukuyu Stars 4–1, Somalia’s Petroleum Agency 3–0 and Malawi’s Bata Bullets 2–0, alongside a goalless draw with Sudan’s Al-Hilal. A 2–0 semi-final victory over Zimbabwe Saints secured their place in the final. With Edward Nassamba in goal, Villa completed the tournament unbeaten, winning five of their six matches and conceding just once. The squad included Hasule, Godfrey Kateregga, Magid Musisi and Kato, whose contributions helped establish the club as a regional force. The triumph made Villa the second Ugandan club to win the regional championship, following KCC’s success in 1978.
