SC Villa Reach the African Cup of Champions Clubs Final

SC Villa finished runners-up in the 1991 African Cup of Champions Clubs after the two-legged final against Tunisia’s Club Africain concluded on 14 December. Villa became the second Ugandan club to reach the final of Africa’s premier club competition, following Simba’s appearance in 1972. Led by captain Paul Hasule, the Jogoos produced a memorable knockout campaign. They eliminated Egypt’s Al-Ahly 4–2 on penalties after a 2–2 aggregate draw in the quarter-finals, then overcame Nigeria’s Iwuanyanwu Nationale 4–3 on aggregate in the semi-finals. Club Africain won the first leg 6–2 at El Menzah Stadium in Tunis on 23 November, with Sula Kato and Magid Musisi scoring Villa’s goals. The return leg at Nakivubo Stadium ended 1–1 on 14 December, with substitute Idi Butambuze scoring for Villa. Club Africain took the title 7–3 on aggregate. Although Villa fell short of the trophy, the campaign established the club among Africa’s finalists and gave Ugandan supporters an enduring chapter of continental football history.
