The Mubiru Hegemony: Three-Consecutive Golden Boots
The early 2000s in Ugandan football were defined by the goal-scoring dominance of striker Hassan Mubiru. In 2000, Mubiru completed one of the most talked-about transfers in local history, the "Figo" heist swapping SC Villa for Express FC for a record fee believed to exceed 25 million shillings. Mubiru rewarded the Wankulukuku faithful by finishing as both the club's and league's top scorer for three consecutive seasons from 2001 to 2003. His lethal partnership in the "Mu-Mu" attack alongside Andrew Mukasa powered Express FC to domestic cup triumphs in 2001 and 2003, creating a scoring record that remains a high-water mark of modern league history.
