Kawempe Muslim Win the Inaugural Women’s Elite League

Kawempe Muslim became the first champions of the FUFA Women Elite League on 20 June 2015, defeating Buikwe She Red Stars 3–2 in the final at Nakivubo Stadium. The victory concluded the inaugural edition of Uganda’s national women’s league, marking an important step in the development of the women’s game. Winnie Babirye scored both goals for Buikwe, while Yudaya Nakayenze and Sandra Nabweteme secured Kawempe’s victory. Nakayenze scored the equaliser after Buikwe took the lead, and Nabweteme added two goals to help her side lift the trophy. Kawempe also claimed the leading individual honours. Nabweteme finished as the league’s top scorer with 17 goals, while Hasifah Nassuna was named its Most Valuable Player. Their achievements placed the players among the standout figures of a competition that gave women’s clubs a national stage on which to compete.
