Story

The story of Kiwanuka

“Whenever there are problems I can’t handle alone, my colleagues are there to help, and we also come together for celebrations.”
Kiwanuka Bendicto Galiko

My journey in football has seen me play for a variety of clubs across Uganda. It started with Gwalimutala Kasawo in 1980, followed by Tigers FC in 1984 and Nagalama Rockstar FC.

In the 1990s, I represented teams like Uganda Motors, Postal Office FC, and UCI Military Police. My path eventually led me to Nakivubo Boys, Tororo Rock Star, and Kawempe United FC, before returning to Nakivubo Boys FC, where I have been involved since 2002. A defining moment in my career was when my right arm was broken while playing for Nakivubo Boys Football Club against WATER/MAJJI. Experiences like that taught me the true sense of brotherhood; the spirit of helping, giving, cooperating, and working together as people of the same football family. Today, my mission is to develop the talents of the youth, promote the game of football, and make it a leisure activity that also serves as an income-generating opportunity for myself, my colleagues, and young people.

I aim to promote the game internationally and have decided to pursue a Bachelor of Law (LLB) at university to create more avenues for these activities. Alongside this, I am in the business of supplying Irish potatoes, delivering from sack to lorry. As a person who played football without payment, I believe the Former Footballers' Initiative will create vital opportunities for me and other friends of the game. It ensures that when problems arise, they don't have to be handled alone but with colleagues, and that our celebrations can also be shared together.
