From One Generation to Another: FFI Sends Rallying Cry to Uganda Cranes in Morocco

KAMPALA – As the floodlights turn on in Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Executive Committee of the Former Footballers Initiative (FFI) sends a message of solidarity, hope, and blessing to the current Uganda Cranes squad.

For us, watching you step onto that pitch brings back memories of our own battles in 1978. Football has evolved since we wore the jersey, the tactics have changed, and the stadiums are different, but the weight of the Black, Yellow, and Red flag remains the same.

A Message to the Squad

"To Captain Khalid Aucho, the coaching staff led by Paul Put, and every young man selected to represent our Pearl of Africa:

We see ourselves in you. We see the hunger that defined our qualification campaign. We have watched you fight your way back to the table of men after missing the last two tournaments. That resilience alone proves you belong there.

As you face the giants of Africa, remember that you carry more than just your individual ambitions. You carry the dreams of millions back home, and you carry the legacy of those who came before you, from Polly Ouma to Phillip Omondi, from Jimmy Kirunda to Denis Onyango.

Our Advice

Play for the badge on the front of the shirt, and the people will remember the name on the back. Do not be intimidated by big names or foreign leagues. On that grass, it is 11 against 11. Discipline, Brotherhood, and Belief will be your greatest weapons.

When your legs get tired in the 90th minute, remember the fans in Kampala, Gulu, Mbale, and Mbarara glued to their radios and screens. Dig deep for them.
